Ruthless Kookaburras brush aside China

3 minute read

The Kookaburras have mercilessly flogged China 11-0 in a dominant display in their final Hockey World Cup dead-rubber group game.

The Kookaburras have dominated China in their final Hockey World Cup group game with an 11-0 victory in the Indian city of Bhubaneswar.

Blake Govers' hat-trick took him to the top of the tournament scoring charts as the world's top-ranked side came within one goal of equalling their record win over South Africa in 2010.

Tim Brand scored twice with Aran Zalewski, Tom Craig, Jeremy Hayward, Jake Whetton, Dylan Wotherspoon and Flynn Ogilvie also getting on the scoresheet in a ruthless display.

The Kookaburras had already sealed their quarter-final spot and will take momentum into their knockout match, where they'll play either France, China, Ireland or England on Wednesday night at 10:30pm (AEDT).

"We had a great game today and really gelled together so it was positive," Govers said.

"We just stuck to our game plan. We were playing China and had a game plan. That's it really."
