In Thursday's other quarter-finals third-ranked Belgium beat Germany 2-1 and England, who shocked world No.2 Argentina by the same scoreline.
Belgium will take on England in the opening semi-final on Saturday before the Kookaburras meet the Netherlands at 2350 (AEDT) in a repeat of the Sydney Olympics final where the Dutch won gold.
