Kelly, Zalewski bag Aust hockey awards

Hockeyroos co-captain Jodie Kelly and Kookaburras captain Aran Zalewski have both been named 2018 player of the year at the Hockey Australia awards night.

Jodie Kelly has been awarded as the Hockeyroos Player of the Year and Aran Zalewski has been named Kookaburras Player of the Year for 2018.

The Hockeyroos co-captain also won the Top Goal Scorer award for her nine strikes last year at the Hockey Australia awards night in Perth on Sunday.

The 31-year-old Queensland Scorchers defender has been capped 200 times for the national side and had big influence on their 2018 campaign.

The Hockeyroos won silver at the Commonwealth Games in April, won the Women's Tri-Nations Hockey Tournament in New Zealand in May, came third in the Women's Four Nations Cup in July, came fourth in the World Cup in England and were runners-up in the Hockey Champions Trophy in November.

Meanwhile, Kookaburra's co-captain Zalewski was instrumental in helping the men's team's stunning campaign last year, in which he was named Champions Trophy Player of the Tournament.

The men's team won gold at the Commonwealth Games in April, won the Hockey Champions Trophy in June-July and came third in the World Cup in India in December.

The 27-year-old's teammate Blake Glovers won the top-scorer award for his 17 goals in 2018.
