Kookaburras beat Germany to make Pro final

3 minute read

The Kookaburras have qualified for the inaugural FIH Pro League final, where they will face world No.1 side Belgium, after beating Germany 2-1.

Australia have beaten Germany 2-1 to book their place in the men's FIH Pro League hockey final.

Tom Craig scored for the Kookaburras in the 42nd minute before Blake Govers doubled their lead 10 minutes later with Marco Miltkau pulling one back in the 59th minute at Die Honamas in Krefeld.

Australia will face world No.1 side Belgium in the final in Antwerp on Wednesday.

The match started defensively with neither side really threatening the other until a 21st minute penalty corner allowed Daniel Beale to test German goalkeeper Tobias Walter.

The Germans started the second quarter better but generally lacked a cutting edge, with Kookaburras keeper Tyler Lovell adding to their frustrations.

Australia were given a breather when Johannes Grosse was shown yellow in the 28th minute, but they failed to take advantage of having an extra man.

But the Kookaburras finally broke through in the 42nd minute with Craig's reverse stick shot into the roof of the net proving too good for German second-choice keeper Victor Aly.

Australia then won a penalty corner 10 minutes later with Aly blocking Govers' first shot before the Kookaburra pounced in the rebound to double their lead.

Germany were desperate to get back into the game and Miltkau struck in the 59th minute but the Kookaburras dug in as the clock ticked down.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
