Dropped Australian squad members Gabi Simpson, Kate Moloney and Emily Mannix have been named in a group of four standby players for the Diamonds' Netball World Cup campaign.

Queensland Firebirds captain and midcourter Simpson was among the biggest surprises to miss selection for the 12-strong squad to contest the flagship tournament in Liverpool in July.

Along with Melbourne Vixens trio Moloney, Mannix and Tegan Philip, she will join the Diamonds at a camp in Sydney next week and then travel to their pre-event base in Manchester.

They will act as training players and standby options in case of injury before the World Cup but can't be called in once the tournament has begun.
