A man is in serious condition in hospital after he was shot in suburban Brisbane, with detectives appealing for public help for information to solve the crime.

A man who was found on a coastal Brisbane street after being shot is in a serious condition in hospital.

Police were called to a disturbance in Karloo Street in Wynnum in the early hours of Monday morning, where they found the man with back injuries.

He was taken to Princess Alexander Hospital where he remains in a serious, but stable condition.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information or dash-cam footage to come forward.
