Queensland-based Irishman Dennis Hogan has a chance to secure a middleweight boxing world title shot, after coming up short in two attempts in the division below.

Hogan (28-2, 7 KOs) will challenge America's WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (29-0, 21 KOs) in New York on December 7.

Ranked the No.5 contender Hogan, 34, copped a contentious points loss to WBO super welterweight champion Jaime Munguia in his last fight back in April.

Hogan also lost on points in a bout against Jack Culcay for the interim World Boxing Association world super welterweight title in December, 2015.
