Collingwood Magpies have made an impressive start to the Super Club netball competition with a 52-33 thrashing of Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, in Nelson, New Zealand.

The Pies, Australia's sole Super Netball representative in the eight-team three-nation tournament, were especially dominant in the first and last quarters, outscoring Magic by seven and eight respectively in those periods.

Collingwood, who finished fourth in the 2019 Super Netball competition, never trailed at any stage of Sunday's game.

Jamaican shooter Shimona Nelson made 41 of her 44 shots for Collingwood, whose next match on Monday is against Tactix, another New Zealand team.

"I think it's just finding those combinations, being able to let the ball go and definitely a lot we can work on from that game," Collingwood's English international defender Geva Mentor told Sky Sports NZ.

"Nice to build for each quarter."

Diamonds midcourter Ash Brazill, who arrived separately from the rest of the squad because she had a training session with Collingwood's AFLW team, said she was pretty happy with the performance.

"I'm really proud of the girls having that trip across and putting out a performance like that," Brazill told Sky.

Collingwood are without sisters and Diamonds' midcourters Kelsey and Madi Browne, who are each recovering from a knee reconstruction, but still have four internationals in Mentor, Brazill, Nat Medhurst and Nelson.

The tournament, which concludes on Friday, is being contested by Collingwood, the six teams from New Zealand's domestic competition and English club Wasps.

The eight teams have been split into two pools of four, with Kiwi side the Stars, the other opponent in Collingwood's section.

Wasps and New Zealand franchises Pulse, Steel and Mystics are in the other pool.
