Sea change for Kerry Armstrong in Syd-Hob

3 minute read

Australian actress Kerry Armstrong has completed the Sydney to Hobart aboard Tasmanian yacht Magic Miles.

It proved a 'sea change' of a different kind for award-winning actress Kerry Armstrong.

The 61-year-old in 2001 won a Logie and Australian Film Industry award for starring in the hit Australian drama of the same name.

On Monday she was aboard Sydney to Hobart yacht Magic Miles as it sailed into the Tasmanian capital after four nights at sea.

"It was wonderful," Armstrong, who also had roles in the film Lantana and television series Blue Heelers, said.

Armstrong's maiden blue water classic wasn't without drama, with the 62-foot Tasmanian yacht running low on water on the last day.

"We went down to rations. We were trying to hydrate so much," she said.

Armstrong was aboard Magic Miles with stunt double Rese Emanuel and good friend Claire Southwell in the event's 75th edition.

"My job was on either the runner, which I really liked, or the winches," she said.

"Sometimes steering. We went toward New Zealand a couple of times but I brought us back."

Although the 14-person crew ran low on water, they snacked on gourmet pizza, butter chicken and spinach, feta and avocado salad.

Armstrong, keen on sailing again in the event, said seeing dolphins, whales and seals come up beside the yacht at night were among the highlights.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
