Australian snowboarder Scotty James has claimed his third FIS World Cup title after winning silver on the halfpipe in Canada.

James qualified for Sunday's final in first place but his best score of 92.25 was topped by Japanese rider Ruka Hirano's 94.75 with Switzerland's Patrick Burgener grabbing the bronze with 89.50.

The 25-year-old's 11-win streak, which began after he won bronze at the PyeongChang Olympics in 2018, also came to an end but he secured enough points to wrap up the world title ahead of the US Open in Vail in two weeks.

"I feel pretty good, it's probably bittersweet to say that obviously it hurts a little bit to finish in second but it is what it is. Ruka rode amazingly and he was the guy tonight," James said.

"A big thank you to my team and everyone supporting me, it's amazing to come away with a Crystal Globe, these aren't easy to win these days, so it's definitely exciting."

It's his third career world title after his wins in 2014 and 2017.

James has an unassailable 3800 points, followed by Japanese duo Yuto Totska on 3400 and Ruka Hirano on 2800.
