After almost a decade of trying, Australian aerial skier Laura Peel has won her first FIS World Cup title.

Peel took gold in the season's final competition in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, to beat China's Xu Mengtao to the crystal globe that is awarded to the season's overall aerials champion.

The 30-year-old from Canberra joins fellow Australians Kirstie Marshall, Jacqui Cooper, Alisa Camplin and Lydia Lassila in winning the sport's world title.

"It's hard to put it into words at the moment," Peel said. "I honestly couldn't be happier right now.

"It's my first globe and it's been almost 10 years working towards it. I have a great team around me and I'm super stoked."

Her fellow Australians Abbey Willcox and Gabi Ash finished seventh and 35th respectively.
