WHAT HAPPENED ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2000 - DAY 12 OF THE SYDNEY OLYMPICS

Diving - Xiong Ni successfully defended his Olympic title in the men's 3m springboard event. By achieving this, the Chinese diver became the second man to win back-to-back gold medals in this event, after American Greg Louganis won gold in both the 1984 and 1988 Games.

Cycling - Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel won the women's road race, her second Olympic gold medal of the Games, after claiming the 3km individual pursuit. She is still the only woman to win a gold medal in road and track cycling at the same Games.

Weightlifting - Hossein Reza Zadeh won the men's +105kg event, lifting a world record total of 472.5kg. He won again in Athens 2004, equalling his world record total. He became the first athlete from Iran to win two Olympic gold medals in any sport.
