Australian aerial skiing star Laura Peel made the best possible start to the World Cup season with victory in Finland.

The 2019-2020 World Cup champion and world No.1 from Canberra had an impressive day at Ruka, finishing first in each stage of the competition.

She was the only female competitor to jump triple somersaults.

"It's amazing to be back on snow competing", the 31-year-old Peel said.

"We've had so many question marks surrounding whether or not the season would go ahead, so we're all stoked to be back out there jumping.

"Starting the season off with a win is a dream."

Peel qualified for finals with a score of 88.51 points before a brilliant lay-tuck-full, single twisting triple back somersault in the first round of finals resulted in her highest score of the event - a mammoth 101.28 points.

In the super final medal round, Peel dominated again with a jump worth 83.87 to finish ahead of German Emma Weiss and Russian Anastasiia Prytkova.

Peel's success is the fifth World Cup victory of her career.

The next stop scheduled on the World Cup tour for the aerial skiing athletes will be Yaroslavl in Russia on January 16-17.
