A third lay-day has been called in the World Surf League event in Hawaii, while organisers wait for some swell to arrive.

The women, including Australians Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons and Tyler Wright, are starting the world series at Honolua Bay in the Maui Pro.

There are eight Australians in the 18-surfer field, including exciting youngsters Isabella Nichols and Macy Callaghan.

The first men's event in Hawaii, the Billabong Pipe Masters at Oahu, is scheduled for December 8-20.
