UFC star Alex Volkanovski's featherweight world title defence against Brian Ortega will be rescheduled after the Australian tested positive for coronavirus.

Volkanovski was devastated by the diagnosis, having followed all COVID-19 protocols and remaining inside the UFC bubble.

The 32-year-old had tested negative before departing Australia on March 14 and heading to Las Vegas via Los Angeles.

But his most recent test came back positive.

Volkanovski's second title defence was to have taken place next weekend but the bout against Ortega will now be rescheduled.

"We have worked so hard to be ready for this fight and I am absolutely devastated this has occurred," the Volkanovski said in a statement.

"We followed every policy and process to remain safe and this is just shocking for our team.

"The support we have had since arriving has been amazing and we can't thank everyone enough who have helped us in preparing for the fight.

"Sadly, it isn't to be this time."
