Table tennis stars eyeing more Para medals

3 minute read

Australia's table tennis stars are in the hunt for more Paralympic medals in the team events after collecting four in the singles in Tokyo.

Australia's gold medal drought in table tennis at the Paralympics is suddenly looking more like a flood.

On Monday, Lina Lei and Qian Yang won Australia's first gold in 37 years when they took out their singles titles.

Now the men's 9-10 team of Ma Lin, Joel Coughlan and Nathan Pellissier are on target to join them.

Ma and Coughlan beat France 2-0 in Tuesday night's quarter-final and the Australians will now play Nigeria on Wednesday in the semis.

They beat Mateo Boheas and Gilles de la Bourdonnaye 11-9 11-5 and 11-8 in their doubles clash.

Ma also downed Boheas 9-11 14-12 11-3 11-8.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ma and Couglan also combined to beat Brazil 2-0 in the knockout round.

But Trevor Hirth and Jake Ballestrino lost their Class 6-7 quarter-final against Great Britain 2-0.

Apart from the two women's singles gold medals, Ma and Sam Von Einem also have singles silvers.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
