Canterbury have copped another blow to their already miserable season with prop Luke Thompson suspended for three weeks at the NRL judiciary.

The Englishman was found guilty on Tuesday night of a grade-two dangerous contact charge for a hit on Cronulla hooker Blayke Brailey.

The 26-year-old could have accepted a two-match ban with an early guilty plea.

However, he will now miss the next three games against the Gold Coast, Wests Tigers and Warriors as the Bulldogs battle to avoid the wooden spoon.

The last-placed Bulldogs sit two wins behind Brisbane and face Newcastle, Manly and Wests Tigers to finish the season.

It comes after Thompson played his best game of his NRL career against the Sharks on Sunday afternoon, racking up 201 metres, eight tacklebreaks and a try.

He was sin-binned in the 24th minute of the 44-24 loss to the Sharks for the late hit on Brailey.
