Wests Tigers have parted ways with their head of football Adam Hartigan, making him the first man to go as part of Tim Sheens' revamp of the NRL club.

Wests Tigers have cut ties with their head of football Adam Hartigan, with the general manager becoming the first man to go under Tim Sheens' reign.

The Tigers confirmed on Friday they had parted ways with Hartigan after days of speculation around his future and the increased role Sheens will play.

It comes just a month after Hartigan helped lead a high-profile review into the club's football department, after a 10th straight year out of the finals.

At the time it appeared as if it could cost Michael Maguire his position as coach, before the board decided to keep him on into 2022.

Instead, it is now Hartigan who is the man out of a job.

Sheens' arrival as director of football had effectively diminished Hartigan's role, squeezing him out of the club for next season.

Hartigan is a popular figure at the Tigers since arriving from the Roosters in 2019.

He has been a key part of their pathways approach, which has been one of the few shining lights at the club in recent years.

He signed the likes of Daine Laurie, Stefano Utoikamanu and Shawn Blore, while fostering a strong lower-grades system.

The Tigers were second in NSW Cup when COVID-19 stopped the reserve grade season in June, and were undefeated in the under-21s Jersey Flegg.

His exit comes at the same time the club are on the verge of trying to lure Josh Hodgson up for Canberra, as a third high-profile recruit for next year after Jackson Hastings and Tyrone Peachey.

The club also said a new-look football department would be revealed next week, after the departures of assistants Wayne Collins and Shane Millard last month following the review.
