Newcastle forward Aidan Guerra has had surgery on his badly injured ankle after suffering a dislocated fracture against Manly.

Guerra had to be taken from the field in a medicab late in Saturday night's loss, after he slipped trying to make a tackle.

The Knights remain unsure how long he will be sidelined for, which will depend on his recovery from the operation.

In better news for Newcastle, halfback Mitchell Pearce is on track to face the Gold Coast on Sunday after passing the first of his mid-week concussion checks.

Pearce was flattened by Manly forward Addin Fonua-Blake as he collected a hit up, resulting in the Tongan prop being sin-binned and Pearce leaving the field.

Sione Mata'utia is also a chance to overcome a shoulder problem to play the Titans.
