St George Illawarra winger Jordan Pereira has been taken to hospital after a suffering a suspected neck injury playing in reserve grade.

Pereira was attempting to score a try in the corner against Newtown on Saturday when he landed awkwardly on his neck at Newtown Oval.

The Dragons confirmed late on Saturday that Pereira, who is believed to have left the ground in a neck brace, has gone for scans.

"Jordan Pereira remains in hospital and is awaiting follow-up scans. We'll update #redv members and fans when all relevant information is available," the Dragons wrote on Twitter.

Pereira, 26, started on the wing for the Dragons over the opening 11 rounds of the NRL season, scoring five tries in the club's first six games.

However he has not recorded a four-pointer since, and spent the past few weeks in Canterbury Cup as coach Paul McGregor opted for other wingers.

The Dragons next face Canberra in round 17.
