The women's State of Origin rugby league match is on the move to Queensland's Sunshine Coast next year.

NSW won the first two editions of the match at North Sydney Oval after the women's Interstate Challenge was rebadged State of Origin.

But they will have to defend the title on Queensland's turf in 2020 when they play at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

NRL head of football Graham Annesley said the time was right for the fixture to head to Queensland.

"The Sunshine Coast is a growing area with the perfect stadium for women's State of Origin which is why we chose the region," Annesley said.

"North Sydney Oval was at capacity for women's State of Origin this year and we are confident the Sunshine Coast community will support the match just as strongly."
