No deadline set on NRL players in limbo

3 minute read

The NRL is yet to decide the fate of a number of players who are facing off-field legal issues, with the NRL Nines squads due to be named on Tuesday.

The immediate playing future of a handful of NRL players remains in limbo with no deadline on a determination of sanctions for off-field issues.

Wests Tigers star Josh Reynolds, Parramatta's Maika Sivo, new Canberra centre Curtis Scott and Penrith's Tyrone May are all in legal trouble off the field, but remain unsanctioned by the NRL despite the topic being raised on Thursday at an Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) meeting.

The ARLC has been briefed on the individual circumstances facing the players, but the NRL has no deadline on when chief executive Todd Greenberg will make a final determination.

It comes as clubs prepare to name their NRL Nines squads on Tuesday for the tournament the following weekend in Perth.

Penrith have confirmed May will not be selected in their squad, while Reynolds, Scott and Sivo will be eligible.

The cases of Reynolds, Scott and Sivo do not trigger an automatic "no fault" stand down by the NRL, but Greenberg has the discretion to sideline them until their cases clear the courts.

May, who pleaded guilty to four counts of intentionally recording an intimate image without consent, was sentenced last week to a three-year community corrections order.

As one of the first players to be stood down at Greenberg's discretion, he has been sidelined for a year.
