Chooks happy to be Morris' friend and foe

Sydney Roosters players would have no issue playing against Josh Morris early in the season knowing he could be their teammate shortly after.

Sydney Roosters players insist they would have no issue facing Josh Morris at Cronulla one week and then having him in their NRL squad the next.

The prospect of a player swap between the clubs remains up in the air, with a loan deal for Roosters forward Poasa Faamausili.

The move would allow Morris to finish his career alongside brother Brett, and also cover for the Roosters' losses following Latrell Mitchell's departure and Billy Smith's injury.

Angus Crichton is expected to fill the role in Saturday's opening round clash with Penrith, having never started there in his NRL career.

However it's believed the Sharks would be reluctant to let that happen before round five when the two sides meet, as they battle their own injury concerns.

Fullback Matt Moylan has had his hamstring managed all off-season, while Josh Dugan's fitness has been widely publicised.

But Roosters forward Nat Butcher said he would have no issue playing against Morris at Kogarah on April 11 knowing they could likely be teammates shortly after.

"I don't think it really matters," Butcher said.

"Whoever is in front of you you're going to give them your best and do your best for your club.

"If he comes it would be great, but if he doesn't then he doesn't. It would be great to have him but we have a 17 ready to go for round one."

Morris is still in pursuit of an elusive maiden premiership in his 14th season in the NRL, after time at St George Illawarra, Canterbury and the Sharks.

Such a move wouldn't be the first of its kind.

Mitchell Moses famously starred for the Wests Tigers against Parramatta in 2017, while negotiating a mid-season move to the club.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
