Injured Penrith fullback Dylan Edwards could return as soon as next week as he races the clock to come back from ankle surgery.

Edwards was meant to miss the opening five rounds of the season after undergoing ankle surgery last month but the 24-year-old is progressing ahead of time and could be back in training by early next week.

"Dylan is progressing well. He will be pushing hard for a round four or even a round three return," Penrith physio Pete Green said.
