Tripp takes over as Storm chairman

Online wagering pioneer Matt Tripp has taken over from Bart Campbell as Melbourne Storm chairman ahead of the NRL restart.

Online wagering pioneer Matt Tripp has officially taken over as Melbourne chairman after replacing Bart Campbell at the helm of the NRL powerhouse.

Tripp moved into the role at the Storm on Friday following Campbell's decision to step aside in March.

An industry leader in bookmaking, Tripp bought Sportsbet on the cheap in 2005 and built it up to be one of the biggest gambling sites in Australia before eventually selling for a mega profit.

He then set up Bet Easy and acted as its chief executive before selling off his remaining shares last year and staying on as a non-executive president.

Tripp has been a director of the Storm since 2013, when he purchased a share in the club alongside Campbell when it was bought from original owners News Corp.

It comes after Tripp was appointed chairman of the Storm's Super Netball franchise the Sunshine Coast Lightning last week.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
