Table-topping Parramatta have received another boost with scans revealing star halfback Mitch Moses' calf injury to be less serious than first feared.

Coach Brad Arthur is hopeful Moses will only miss two NRL games despite leaving Bankwest Stadium on crutches last Saturday night after hurting himself in the opening half of the Eels' thrilling golden-point win over Canberra.

"Mitch is probably around that two-to-three-week mark. It's more around scar tissue from a previous injury he's had there in the COVID period," Arthur told NRL 360 on Monday night.

"So it's not as bad as we first might have expected and it's just a matter of a bit of time (recovering) now. The signs were pretty good today."

Moses has been among the competition's form players in 2020, piloting the Eels to top spot with six wins from seven outings.

But Arthur is backing five-eighth Dylan Brown to step up as chief playmaker in Moses' absence.

The coach is weighing up whether to retain Brad Takairangi, who moved into the halves to partner Brown when Moses was injured against Canberra, or promote either Will Smith, Jaeman Salmon or Jai Field for Friday night's clash with North Queensland.

"We don't need to change how we play," Arthur said.

"We try to play off the back of our forwards, what they can generate and (how they) dominate.

"So whoever comes into the jersey will just have to play the role of the jersey and kick well to corners and support; support play will be huge for us.

"We've got a few options there and we'll have a bit more of a look tomorrow afternoon after training.

"But it's a couple of weeks (out for Moses) and whoever comes in gets a really good opportunity for us."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
