Melbourne could face a fine from the NRL for briefly fielding 14 players in the second half of their NRL win over the Sydney Roosters.

The league will look into the incident on Monday.

It occurred when Suliasi Vunivalu appeared to briefly re-enter the field after being taken off for a HIA.

It's believed the matter will not be considered serious enough for the Storm to be stripped of points, with them leading 24-0 at the time.

"It will be reviewed as a matter of course along with other operational aspects of the round on Monday," a spokesperson said.

Vunivalu was left concussed and expecting to miss up to six weeks on the sideline with a broken jaw when he attempted to tackle Sio Siua Taukeiaho.

He was taken from the field and replaced by Nicho Hynes, as per NRL protocols.

While he was being treated on the sideline, the Roosters threatened to make a break on his right wing and he briefly re-entered the field, stopping a two-on-one situation.

It stopped the Tri-Colours move as Brenko Lee brought down Josh Morris, before they scored three minutes later on the same edge.

Canterbury were the last team to lose points for an interchange breach against Penrith in 2009.

However, on that occasion they had an extra player on the field when the match-winning try was scored in a two-point ball game.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
