Robert Jennings will return to Penrith after being let go by Wests Tigers to take up a one-year option with his junior club.

The Panthers confirmed Jennings' homecoming on Friday, after he debuted for the club in 2015 before heading to Souths.

Among the NRL's leading try-scorers in 2018 at the Rabbitohs, Jennings moved to the Tigers in 2019 before an injury-riddled 2020.

But he was not re-signed by the Tigers at the end of last season, as part of a club-wide clean out that saw seven players let go either mid-season or at year's end.

"I was over the moon when I heard there was a chance to come back to Penrith," Jennings said.

"This is where I grew up, where my career started and this is the place I call home.

"I'm extremely grateful to have the opportunity to reunite with so many of the talented players that I came through the grades with.

"The last couple of years have been tough but coming back to Panthers is a chance for me to hit the reset button, get back into the hard work and prove that I belong in the NRL."

The 24-year-old will face a battle to push into Penrith's backline, with their grand-final side not including the likes of Dean Whare or Charlie Staines and no-one moving on.
