The NRL hopes to finalise an investigation into NSWRL's handling of Boyd Cordner's head injury assessment in the State of Origin opener by the end of the week.

On Monday evening the NRL received a report from the NSWRL medical team detailing the process Dr Nathan Gibbs went through to clear Cordner of concussion in Adelaide.

The report was delivered to the NRL's chief medical officer Dr Paul Bloomfield late on Monday afternoon and is expected to take several days to examine.

It will be discussed by senior NRL management on Tuesday, while Bloomfield could then seek other expert advice before providing a recommendation to the NSWRL.

It comes on the eve of Origin II to be played at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Blues maintain Gibbs followed NRL concussion protocols and Cordner passed all tests to return to the field despite the skipper appearing wobbly on his legs after an innocuous hit.

They vehemently deny placing Cordner in any risk.

The 28-year-old Sydney Roosters star has since withdrawn from the remainder of the series and there are reports he could miss the start of next NRL season as a precaution.

This year alone Cordner has suffered several concussions and missed six weeks as he dealt with ongoing symptoms.
