Queensland five-eighth Cameron Munster lasted just two minutes of State of Origin II in Sydney after failing a head injury assessment test.

Queensland five-eighth Cameron Munster is in doubt to play State of Origin III in Brisbane next week after failing a head injury assessment on Wednesday night.

The Maroons star lasted just two minutes of Game II in Sydney after landing on his head following a heavy collision with NSW forward Tyson Frizell.

The 26-year-old Munster was wobbly on his feet as he attempted to stand up and was escorted up the tunnel by Maroons medical staff, where he failed the HIA.

With just seven days until the Origin decider at Suncorp Stadium, Munster will need to pass stringent concussion protocols to play.

However, coach Wayne Bennett said Munster seemed OK in the sheds after the loss to NSW and was a chance to play in Brisbane.

"All indications are that he's fine," Bennett said.

"He has no history of head knocks, which helps."

Should Munster be ruled out of the final game of the series it could open the door for rookie-of-the-year Harry Grant to come into the side on the bench.

Utility Ben Hunt was shifted to the halves in Munster's absence at ANZ Stadium and would be the logical starter at No.6 should the Melbourne ace be unavailable.

The Maroons have no other halves options in their 27-man squad after AJ Brimson was ruled out of the series with a foot injury.
