Cameron Munster continues to add to the long line of star Queensland No.6s who excel at State of Origin level, claiming his first Wally Lewis Medal.

Queensland have always been spoilt for choice when it comes to great No.6s.

From the king Wally Lewis to Darren Lockyer and Johnathan Thurston.

But when Cameron Munster retires he could well have written his own Origin legend.

Munster's maiden Wally Lewis Medal win in Queensland's series-claiming 20-14 win on Wednesday night came despite missing 78 minutes of the series in Game II.

If anything, his absence in Sydney after a concussion showed just how important he is to the Maroons.

He was close to their best in the opening-game win in Adelaide, while Queensland's left-edge defence and strike in attack suffered in Sydney.

But when it mattered most in Brisbane, Munster made sure his presence was felt.

He looked dangerous with all 33 of his touches, only busting one tackle but every time looking like he could go through the line.

The 26-year-old set up Queensland's first try when he ran it on the last and went down the short side, allowing Valentine Holmes to cross.

The Maroons' next try through him was as magical as it was crucial.

He kicked for himself, regathered and then forced an error with a second kick.

When Cherry-Evans regathered and played the ball, Munster went across field and kicked for Edrick Lee to score.

It was the kind of play that could be spoken about for years ahead, in what will ultimately go down as one of the Maroons' greatest-ever series wins.

"He just keeps getting better," Lewis told Nine.

"The creativity he displays every time he goes out there, you've got to admire that.

"But when it's up there with the finest rugby league talent in the game, and he's still able to succeed against them, fantastic.

"He was getting in at dummy-half, first receiver, second receiver. You could just tell the Blues were getting nervous."

It comes after Munster won his second premiership less than a month ago with Melbourne, in what has been another whirlwind year for the Storm star.
