Gold Coast CEO Steve Mitchell says the NRL club has not had any contact with Cameron Smith despite the Titans being linked to the off-contract veteran.

Despite being relentlessly linked with Cameron Smith, Gold Coast chief executive Steve Mitchell says the Titans have not had any discussion with the veteran hooker.

Melbourne are aiming to get an answer from their skipper this weekend with chairman Matt Tripp to fly to Queensland where Smith and his family have relocated.

The 37-year-old is a free NRL agent after his Storm contract expired but it remains unclear whether he'll play on at another club or call time on his illustrious career.

With Smith having bought a home on the Gold Coast, speculation has been ongoing the Titans would look to lure the former Queensland and Australia captain to the club either in a playing or off-field role.

Mitchell, however, said there had been no discussions between the Titans and Smith nor his management.

"The club hasn't had a conversation with Cameron," Mitchell told AAP.

"One of the biggest figures in the game obviously, the modern game, but at this point in time we haven't had a conversation with him.

"He's obviously coming to the back end of his career and what his movements are from here is Cameron's call. It's gonna be interesting to see where he finishes."

Securing a No.9 is the obvious missing piece in the Titans' roster, with Mitch Rein and Erin Clark the two hookers currently on the club's books.

Another Storm player, New Zealand international Brandon Smith, has been given approval to find a new club at the end of the 2021 season.

The Titans are among several clubs linked to the 24-year-old but Mitchell said, again, nothing official had been tabled at this stage by his club.

"I don't think there's too many clubs in the comp that aren't interested in Brandon," Mitchell said.

"It's going to be interesting to see where he falls and where he ends up.

"We're like all other clubs, you've got to look at talent and where it sits and he's a talent for his particular role, as are a number of players that are sort of coming to the market as well.

"Strategically, we've got to look at the fit."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
