Sydney FC coach Steve Corica has confirmed Brazilian striker Bobo will need to build up his fitness before taking the field for the A-League champions this season.

The 36-year-old was released from hotel quarantine days ago and Corica said the forward would need the next few weeks to regain his fitness after his most recent spell in Brazil.

It rules him out of a return for the Sky Blues against Western Sydney in Saturday's derby at ANZ Stadium.

"He won't be playing," Corica said on Thursday.

"He just got out of quarantine and it's probably a couple of weeks before we're ready to consider him.

"We need to work on his fitness a little bit. Coming from Brazil he hadn't played a lot as well.

"He'd been training but not playing, so it'll take a few weeks for him to get back into it."

His return to Sydney is anticipated given his incredible strike rate for the side - scoring 42 times in 57 games between 2016 and 2018.

In his last season he scored 27 goals in 28 games to claim the golden boot.

"If he can get somewhere close to that it'd be great for the team. He's a good guy as well, so we're looking forward to seeing him out there," Corica said.
