Young West Tigers forward Shawn Blore will miss the start of the NRL season after having surgery for a broken wrist he suffered at training.

The 20-year-old second-rower is now expected to be on the sidelines until at least round six, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

It's a setback for the promising youngster, who was set to challenge for a starting spot in the Tigers side after making his debut in 2020.

Former skipper Moses Mbye has suffered a hamstring injury but the club says he is expected to be available for the season opener against the Canberra Raiders.

Meanwhile utility Billy Walters is making good progress after his ACL reconstruction and is aiming to take part in modified team training in March ahead of a planned return later to play in the year.
