Brisbane coach Kevin Walters has handed Alex Glenn the captaincy for 2021, declaring him the perfect man to lead the club out of the lowest point in their history.

The 264-game stalwart shared co-captaincy duties with Brodie Croft and Pat Carrigan last year as the Broncos had their worst-ever season.

However, new coach Walters took his time before deciding who would lead the club with Carrigan, Anthony Milford and Matthew Lodge also in the running.

"I've got a lot of respect for Alex, he's been at the club for 14 years, captained our under-20s side to a grand final and for mine typifies what a Broncos player is," Walter said on Friday.

"He gives his all every week and it's all about the team.

"It's not just about on the field either. Off the field he's a great dad, great family person, a lot of respect for the people in the community.

"It was a tough year for him last year in many ways but we're going to make it a great season for him."

Glenn said it was a huge honour to be handed the top job.

"I've always said the way I try to lead is through my actions and I'm very grateful for Kevvie appointing me as captain," he said.

""Kevvie's a winner, he always reminds people how many premierships he's won.

"He knows the balance between fun and hard work and that's something you need to have.

"I love the winning attitude of Kevvie, he loves to train hard and win games."

The Broncos face North Queensland Cowboys in a trial match at a soldout Redcliffe Stadium on Saturday.
