Craig Bellamy has challenged his Melbourne side to deliver away from home as they prepare for their NRL clash with winless Canterbury on Saturday afternoon in Sydney.

The Storm aren't expected to be troubled by the Bulldogs, who are trying to avoid becoming the first team in history to be held scoreless for four straight games.

But having lost both of their away games so far, Bellamy wants to see his team at their best on the road, with the Bulldogs match at Stadium Australia.

"There was a few areas we needed to improve in and we did that at home but we need to be doing that away," Bellamy said on Friday.

"That's our big test this week, in those crucial areas in the game - to make sure our effort is really high in those situations away from home.

"We've done it twice at home but we haven't done it for the 80 minutes away from home."

Despite Canterbury's record this season, Bellamy said their effort couldn't be faulted.

"They've been struggling with their game, especially scoring points, but there hasn't been a lack of effort there."

Origin hooker Harry Grant is set to make his first appearance after being named on the bench and Bellamy was looking forward to his contribution, allowing the team to get more out of current rake Brandon Smith.

The Storm have missed Smith's punch in the back-end of games, with the hooker only lasting an average of 64 minutes.

With Grant in the No.9 jersey, Smith can be part of the interchange.

"Brandon has been doing well but he hasn't been able to play the 80 minutes.

"We want to use him in a dual role, in being a dummy half but also when Harry's playing, out there playing through the ruck as well as that's one of Brandon's real strengths."

Meanwhile, Bellamy said negotiations were underway to lock in brilliant fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen, who has been the Storm's best this season.

Bellamy said securing the 22-year-old was a priority.

"That process has just started and there will be a bit of to and fro-ing but we'd like to think he's part of the furniture now," the coach said.

"I think he wants to stay so we just have to get the financial side of it right.

"We'd love to keep him here."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
