Sydney Roosters second-rower Sitili Tupouniua faces a ban for a shoulder charge that went unnoticed on field in his team's NRL win over Newcastle.

The NRL's match review committee has added to the Sydney Roosters' pain with Sitili Tupouniua facing a suspension for a shoulder charge that was not penalised in their win over Newcastle.

Still picking up the pieces as Brett Morris and Lindsay Collins went for scans on Sunday morning on suspected ACL tears, the Roosters were told Tupouniua faced up to a two-game ban.

Tupouniua has been hit with a grade-one charge for his first-half contact on Connor Watson, in an incident that was not deemed foul by either the bunker or on-field officials.

The knock flattened the Knights lock, which came marginally after he passed the ball following a run across field.

The hit was far from a traditional shoulder charge, with Tupouniua getting low and driving his body into Watson's ribs.

However, the review committee ruled that he did not wrap his arms in the contact, therefore meeting the game's definition of a shoulder charge.

Tupouniua can accept a one-game ban for the hit which will double to two if he unsuccessfully fights it at the NRL judiciary.

Meanwhile, Roosters winger Matt Ikuvalu will avoid a ban for late contact on Blake Green and is instead facing a fine.

Penrith's Matt Burton can accept a fine for a high tackle that left Martin Taupau concussed in their win over Manly.

Canterbury's Ava Seumanufagai has been issued with a fine for lifting his knees into Nathan Brown in a hit up, injuring the hip of the Eels lock.
