Brown knocks back better offer for Eels

Nathan Brown claims he knocked back better money and more security elsewhere to stay at Parramatta in order to win a premiership at the Eels.

Brown on Tuesday put pen to paper on a two-year deal, becoming one of the club's first off-contract players to commit until the end of 2023.

But it didn't come easy.

The 28-year-old had attracted interest from elsewhere, including Manly, during the negotiation process before that offer was eventually pulled.

"I never wanted to leave in the first place. My heart was here," Brown said.

"There was a stage there where there was an offer that was hard to knock back.

"It was more money and more years. I knocked it back to stay here. All I wanted to do was stay here."

Better known for his judiciary record when he arrived at the Eels from South Sydney in 2016, Brown has turned into a NSW forward while at Parramatta.

"The way we play our footy suits my footy. I have been here for a few years now," Brown said.

"I love it here and I didn't really want to go in the first place. To get it out of the way is exciting.

"I wouldn't have signed if I didn't believe we can (win a premiership). That was a factor as well."

The Eels still have 22 players off contract between now and the end of next year, with the club facing a massive retention task.

Included in that list is halfback Mitch Moses, who has until the end of this week to activate an option for next season.

Even if he fails to do so, the Eels still remain favourites to retain the star No.7 on an extended deal.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
