South Sydney will turn their attention to re-signing Cody Walker after confirmation that Adam Reynolds will leave the Rabbitohs for Brisbane at the end of the 2021 NRL season.

Reynolds wanted to finish his career as a one-club player but his management on Wednesday said the 30-year-old hoped to formalise a $2.25 million three-year deal with the Broncos in coming days.

"While disappointed his career at Souths will conclude at the end of the year, Adam will always hold the club dear to his heart and consider himself a Rabbitoh for life," his agent Steve Gillis said.

The Rabbitohs' 2014 premiership-winning halfback is believed to have told teammates on Wednesday he'd rejected a one-season extension from the club as well as a multi-year offer from Cronulla to join the Broncos.

It's understood Reynolds intends to sign the multi-million-dollar contract while he is in Brisbane for the NRL's Magic Round this weekend.

The Rabbitohs meet the Sharks on Saturday and Reynolds has a chance of playing despite a thumb injury.

The Sharks were in heavy pursuit of the 214-game star over the past few weeks but put a deadline on his decision by the end of Wednesday.

Reynolds will instead take the big money on offer from the Broncos, who recently lost Tom Dearden and Xavier Coates to rival clubs for next year.

Reynolds' signing with Brisbane will bring to an end a celebrated 10-year career with the Rabbitohs.

Along with a starring role in the club's drought-breaking title triumph seven years ago, the goalkicking whiz is fast closing in on a famous pointscoring record.

Reynolds needs "only" 117 more points this year to surpass the legendary Eric Simms as the club's highest-ever point-scorer.

Simms compiled 1,841 points over 11 seasons between 1965 and 1975.

Through his 10 seasons at Souths Reynolds has notched 1,724.

Reynolds' defection will only heighten speculation that Rabbitohs' coach Wayne Bennett will follow the ex-NSW State of Origin half to Brisbane.

Bennett is off contract at the end of 2021, handing the reins to Souths assistant coach Jason Demetriou, but wants to continue coaching in some capacity.
