Parramatta star Mitch Moses wants the club to now focus on wrapping up Clint Gutherson's signature after the halfback committed his NRL future to the Eels.
Mitch Moses's contract extension is yet to be rubber stamped by the NRL but already he has urged Parramatta to turn their attention to re-signing Clint Gutherson.
A multi-year extension for Moses is set to be announced in the coming days but the star halfback wants the club to now focus on locking in skipper Gutherson beyond the end of 2022.
The spine combination of Gutherson, Moses, Reed Mahoney and Dylan Brown have been together at the Eels since 2019 and that stability has been key to their current form.
Like Gutherson, Mahoney is off contract at the end of 2022 and able to negotiate with rival clubs in November, but Moses said it's vital to lock in their inspirational leader immediately.
"Gutho is the most important one. You've definitely got to wrap him up," Moses said on Wednesday.
"The standards that we have at training have pretty much come from Gutho.
"The way he trains, the way he leads us, and as a mate and a teammate, to see how much he's grown in the leadership role as the captain is something good to watch."
The commitment to second-placed Parramatta has come after Moses was heavily pursued by Brisbane, who have since signed ex-NSW Origin half Adam Reynolds for next season.
Moses has an option in his favour to stay at the Eels next season, with the extension expected to take him through until at least 2024.
The 26-year-old has said that his next contract was never about money, but where he feels he could play his best football and win a premiership.
It meant the ex-Wests Tigers half never really considered the Broncos, preferring to stay where he is happy and in form.
"Not really," he said when asked if he entertained the thought of moving to Brisbane.
"We have a really good side here and I've really loved my time here at Parramatta.
"My brother (Stephen Moses)is looking after all my stuff, so he pretty much just let me worry about all my footy.
"I've made that mistake before in the past and I think in having a bit more experience in that situation, I handled it a bit better this time around."
