Queensland second-rower Felise Kaufusi could miss the opening State of Origin match after being charged with tripping following Melbourne's big win over Brisbane on Thursday night.

The Storm confirmed on Friday Kaufusi will challenge a one-week ban, a fight he must win to play in the June 9 opener.

He was hit with a grade-one tripping charge involving Bronco Jake Turpin in the 74th minute - his team up 40-12 at the time - at Suncorp Stadium.

Due to two previous non-similar offences in the past two years, he was unable to take a monetary penalty and will miss one game with an unsuccessful challenge of the charge at the judiciary.
