Jaydn Su'a is grateful to be given the chance by new Queensland coach Paul Green despite being dropped by South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett a week ago.

It was just before bedtime that Jaydn Su'A got the call he'd been hoping for from new Queensland coach Paul Green.

Dropped by his South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett last week, the enforcer had reason to be anxious despite impressing in his debut series in the Maroons' shock win last year.

"There was a sigh of the relief; waiting next to the phone all day for the call and I wasn't sure I'd make it," the 23-year-old told AAP ahead of the series opener in Townsville.

"I saw it ringing and tried to leave it for a bit, but just had to answer it straight away.

"I was pretty shattered to be left out of the (Rabbitohs) side, so I'm grateful and after talking to Greeny those feelings from (the Origin series) last year came back up and I can't wait to do it again."

Su'A has been challenged to adjust his attitude by both Green and Bennett, admitting he can "hurt his team by playing with too much emotion".

But with the NRL's crackdown on high contact, Su'A knows there will be no margin for error after narrowly avoiding a suspension for a dangerous tackle during Magic Round.

"I wouldn't say it's going to be more lenient (in Origin compared to the NRL); at the end of the day any contact to the head, you're going for 10 minutes and that hurts the team," he said.

"I know where the line is, I guess sometimes I flirt with it but I need to know when to pull it back in and the ball's in my court.

"They know what I can bring to this arena and I'm going to bring it, so let's do it."

The team will travel to Bundaberg to meet fans on Tuesday, before setting up base on the Gold Coast from Wednesday.
