The Warriors will end an almost two-year wait to play an NRL match in New Zealand, with their round 22 clash against Canterbury to be held in Auckland.

The Warriors have confirmed they'll be returning home to Auckland to play their first home game in more than 700 days this August.

The NRL club's round 22 clash against Canterbury has been locked in to be played at Mt Smart Stadium, in what will double as a farewell for captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck before his switch to rugby union.

"This is going to be one of the biggest and certainly most emotional days in our great club's history," Warriors chief executive Cameron George said.

"What we want now is to see Mt Smart Stadium packed to the rafters to support the team and to farewell Roger."

When the Warriors run out to face the Bulldogs it will be their first game on New Zealand soil in almost two years - last playing in Auckland against South Sydney on August 30, 2019.

The Warriors spent all of last season in Australia due to the COVID-19 pandemic and have again based themselves in Terrigal on the NSW Central Coast so far in 2021, despite the opening of a trans-Tasman travel bubble between the two nations.

Despite confirming the Bulldogs match will be played in Auckland, the Warriors have not set a return date to travel back to New Zealand at this stage.
