Australia's Alex Bolt and Jordan Thompson are through to the quarter-finals of the Los Cabos Open in Mexico.

Bolt, the world No.148, was the first man through after beating Ecuador's Emilio Gomez 6-3 6-1 and is now awaiting the winner of Evgeny Donskoy and big-serving John Isner for a place in the last four.

Bolt began the tournament with an upset three-set win over seventh-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi.

The left-handed South Australian was a dominant winner over Gomez, converting four out of six break points.

He enjoyed an 85 per cent winning percentage on first serve and dished out four aces.

Thompson, on the other hand, was made to fight all the way for his victory over Sebastian Ofner.

After losing the first set 6-3, the tournament's No.5 seed fought back to win the second 6-4.

He and Ofner were locked at 5-5 in the third set when a mighty battle ensued.

Fighting to hold serve, the Austrian saved three break points before Thompson converted at his fourth attempt.

He then served out to win 3-6 6-4 7-5 and will now meet the winner of Brandon Nakashima and No.4 seed Sam Querry.

They are joined in the quarter-finals by Ernesto Escobedo, who beat Denis Kudla 6-4 7-6 (11-9), and top seed Cameron Norrie, a 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 winner over Elias Ymer.
