Adam Reynolds has cemented his place as a South Sydney great by becoming the club's record points scorer in their 40-12 NRL victory over Parramatta.

The local junior kicked eight goals from nine attempts to write his name into the Rabbitohs' history books on Friday night, creating a legend that can't be erased after he leaves them for Brisbane at the end of the season.

Reynolds needed eight points to surpass Eric Simms' tally of 1841, which has been the benchmark for Souths since the champion fullback retired in 1975.

The 31-year-old Reynolds finished the night on 1850 points, and with five games to go in the regular season his tally could be unassailable come his final match in the red and green.

"It's something I'll look back at the end of my career on," he said.

"I'm still chasing a few milestones before I leave.

"There's a lot more I want to do while I'm here at Souths and that will be my main focus.

"I'm very honoured and privileged to be mentioned along with the likes of Eric Simms."

Reynolds surpassed Simms' 46-year-old record in the 45th minute of the game at Cbus Super Stadium, when he converted a Dane Gagai try.

The world-class kicker also converted a Cameron Murray try, doubles to wingers Jaxson Paulo and Josh Mansour and slotted two penalties.

On a historic night for Reynolds, Souths moved into the top two to establish themselves as a title threat with their ninth consecutive win.

Parramatta, on the other hand, continue to spiral.

The Eels have scored four tries and leaked 74 points in the past three weeks, winning just one of their last five.

It highlights another worrying drop in form at the wrong time of the year.

Since they became genuine finals contenders in 2017, the Eels are 4-14 against other top-eight teams in the back end of the season.

The loss could derail their campaign, giving Sydney Roosters a chance to move into fourth on the ladder if they beat Penrith on Saturday night.

The Eels could finish the round as low as sixth and facing the hardest run home of any team with dates against Manly, Melbourne and Penrith to come.

"There's still a couple of weeks to go, but we can't be worrying about the top four," coach Brad Arthur said.

"We've got to get our football back on that we know that we need to be playing and find our rhythm again."

Adding to their pain is a shoulder injury to hooker Reed Mahoney, who was taken from the field late and was was visibly upset on the sidelines.

The 23-year-old will go for scans on Saturday, but there are fears his season is over.

It comes after he missed a month with the same shoulder problem earlier this year, only returning in recent weeks.

Souths will play the Titans next weekend before meetings with Penrith, the Sydney Roosters and St George Illawarra to conclude their regular season.
