Former Melbourne player Tino Fa'asuamaleaui won't be doing his old team any favours when the Storm chase a record-equalling 19th straight NRL win on Thursday.

Gold Coast star Tino Fa'asuamaleaui is out to play the role of party-pooper when he faces former club Melbourne for the first time on Thursday.

The Storm tackle the Titans at CBUS Super Stadium knowing a win would equal the 19-match winning streak of the 1975 Sydney Roosters team for the most consecutive victories in premiership history.

Having missed the Titans' round 13 loss to the Storm on the Sunshine Coast, Fa'asuamaleaui is itching to come up against the teammates who he won the title with last year.

With the Titans still firmly in the hunt for a top eight finish despite last weekend's 36-6 loss to South Sydney, he's also in no mood to be granting any favours to those ex-teammates.

"We've got to get this win so it'd be a massive win for us and we need this," Fa'asuamaleaui said.

"I'm more focused on getting the win for us but if we do stop that (streak) it'd be be good bragging rights when I speak to them."

The Storm's incredible form this season is no surprise to Fa'asuamaleaui, despite the retirement of legendary captain Cameron Smith and injury concerns which have left the team without stars Ryan Papenhuyzen, Harry Grant and Cameron Munster during their winning run.

"They've still got the best coach and they've still got very good players there," he said.

"I always expected the Storm to play well. They've got Craig (Bellamy) there.

"They're a good team and it's going to be a good chance for us to compete with the best this weekend."

The heavy loss to the Rabbitohs last weekend means Gold Coast still haven't beaten a top four team this season.

Fa'asuamaleui however says there is a key lesson to take from that defeat into Thursday's game.

"You've got to be on no matter what especially against them top four teams," he said after a poor start against Souths meant the Titans were down 30-0 before Corey Thompson's lone second-half try.

"We'll learn from that.

"It's going to be a massive test for us. They're the best in the comp and if we hopefully get the win it will be good for us."
