Young Broncos forward suffers ACL injury

3 minute read

Brisbane rookie Xavier Willison's NRL season is over, with the 19-year-old suffering an ACL injury in the Bronco's 21-20 loss to the Sydney Roosters.

Brisbane teenager Xavier Willison's maiden NRL campaign is over, with scans revealing the forward had suffered an ACL injury in last Friday's 21-20 loss to the Sydney Roosters.

The 19-year-old, who debuted in the round 20 win over North Queensland and has made three appearances for the Broncos, will have surgery during the week.

Willison's elevation to first grade resulted in him signing a one-year extension to his contract at Red Hill last week, keeping him at the Broncos until the end of the 2023 season.

There was more encouraging news for experienced half Albert Kelly, who has been cleared of serious injury.

Kelly hurt his knee during the narrow loss to the Roosters but played out the game and scans have come back clear meaning the 30-year-old is a chance to feature in Sunday's game against the Warriors at Suncorp Stadium.

"He will train tomorrow," Broncos head of performance Dave Ballard said.

"We'll see how he gets through that skills session before looking at this weekend's game."
