Cronulla have suffered another injury blow with Ronaldo Mulitalo undergoing surgery on a broken jaw in Brisbane on Sunday, ending his NRL season.

The Sharks star was forced from the field after copping an accidental elbow while attempting to save a try in Saturday's 50-20 win over the Wests Tigers in Rockhampton.

Distraught after the game, the 21-year-old still managed to do a lap of honour around Browne Park and hand his game boots to a young fan in the crowd after his two-try performance.

It was a touching gesture from Mulitalo who will now miss Sharks' run to the finals with games against Brisbane and Melbourne to finish the regular season.

The young winger has been one of Cronulla's most consistent performers this season with 10 tries in 16 games as well as five try-assists.

Already the eighth-placed Sharks are without their two biggest stars in Shaun Johnson and Wade Graham, while Andrew Fifita is facing a long recovery from throat surgery earlier this week.

Graham has also confirmed he won't be returning to the field this season after copping a concerning concussion back in round 14 - his third for the year.
