Albert Kelly is already picturing how he can flourish alongside incoming Brisbane half Adam Reynolds next season.

And he can afford to, such has been the 30-year-old's rise up the power rankings at Red Hill this season.

The halfback debuted for Cronulla in 2010 but had played in England since leaving the Gold Coast in 2014, arriving back in Brisbane overweight but determined to make the most of a second chance in the NRL.

At one stage while at Hull he weighed 106kg, but is now playing at 94kg and still has "a few more gears to go".

With two games remaining this season he's cemented himself in the Brisbane No.7, his spirited performance a big part of the side's obvious improvement in the back half of 2021.

Kelly this week added another year to his contract and said the arrival of premiership-winning South Sydney halfback Reynolds would not be an issue.

"It's a big possibility now and I'm excited for next year," Kelly said of moving to No.6 next season.

"If I do go back to six it would suit my natural running game; let Reyno run the show and I'd just run off the back of him.

"And if I come off the bench (as a utility back) I'd bring a lot of energy and run hard and tackle harder."

The Broncos play the Sharks at Suncorp Stadium this Saturday, with Kelly eager to take on the team who gave him his NRL debut over a decade ago.

Fresh off a tight win over the Warriors and narrow loss to Sydney Roosters, he said the change at the club in recent weeks has been stark.

"There's more self-belief in players; more confidence as well as you can see on the past couple of performances," he said.

"That's the right direction we're heading in and that's where we want to stay."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
