South Sydney hooker Damien Cook is tipped to overcome a thigh injury and play in the Rabbitohs' NRL clash with the Sydney Roosters.

South Sydney star Damien Cook is expected to overcome a thigh injury to take on NRL arch-rivals Sydney Roosters on Friday night.

Cook was hurt in early in the second half of the Rabbitohs' loss to Penrith last Friday night, but managed to play on through the injury.

There had been some thought that the 30-year-old would be rested against the Roosters, given Souths have little to gain over the final two rounds.

The Rabbitohs cannot finish higher than second or lower than third on the ladder, meaning they are destined to take on Penrith in a qualifying final.

But Cook has told Souths coaching staff he does not want to be rested if he is fully fit, paving the way for him to face the Roosters.

The Rabbitohs hooker had Wednesday off alongside teammates, but got through a conditioning session on Tuesday unscathed after a light day on Monday.

"I'm travelling pretty well and I did finish the game," Cook told Sky Sports Radio.

"If I get through captain's run without anything pulling up which I'm very confident that I will, I will play Friday.

"We're not going to change from second or third, we're still going to be playing the Panthers first week of the finals.

"If it's not 100 per cent I just won't play this week but I am confident everything will be good to go."

Souths flogged the Roosters in the corresponding match last year, romping past them 60-8 to start an end-of-season spiral for the 2019 premiers.

The injury-depleted Roosters need to keep winning to cement their position in the NRL's top-four.
